La Folía

From the composer, Jeffery Wilson:

La Folía (Spanish), is one of the oldest European musical forms. It is most commonly characterised by having a fixed chord progression. This is the case with this music which features some soloistic Soprano Saxophone.

I wrote this saxophone ensemble work whilst staying just south of Valencia in Spain where La Folía may have made it’s first appearance in the fifteenth century.

The dedicatee is my friend Debbie Scherer, one of the founders of the Yorkshire Saxophone Choir who premiered this work at Otley Court House on September 11th 2026.
