“This was commissioned by John Turner for a concert to commemorate the late John McCabe in October 2016 at the University of Manchester. Based on a ‘series’ derived from the letters of the composer’s name (M=E, C, C, A, B, E), this austere and measured four-minute exploration gradually becomes warmer and more lyrical, even sumptuous, towards the end.” (2018)
