Description

This collection of Shetland reels was originally arranged by Jan Steele, a founder member of the saxophone ensemble, Saxtet. He transcribed them from a guitar performance, although traditionally they would have been played on the fiddle.

The original saxophone quartet version was regularly used by Saxtet as a rousing concert-closer and encore, requiring massive amounts of stamina and plenty of self-control to avoid getting carried away too quickly!

This challenging solo demands just the same qualities as the original quartet version, making it a useful study which doubles as an exciting item of unaccompanied concert repertoire.

“Shetland Sequence” is also available in hard-copy from June Emerson Wind Music.

This collection of Shetland jigs and reels has been arranged by a founder member of the ensemble Saxtet. The original quartet version (also available) was often used by Saxtet as a rousing encore requiring great stamina and dexterity, together with plenty of self-control to avoid getting carried away too quickly! This challenging solo version demands just the same qualities! (Grade 5+)
