Composer’s note:Â This was inspired by Bajun* gossips, chattering wildly as if caught up in a burlesque Viennese waltz. There’s plenty of pantomime drama in their wild talk, but occasionally they slow down to draw breath or discuss something a little more serious. Its excitement and cross rhythms require a lot of stamina but I hope adventurous quartets will find a bit of musical substance in with all the excitement.
“Busylickum” is dedicated Vincent Griffith. It’s written for the Paragon Saxophone Quartet and appears on the Saxtet Publications’ album of quartet music “Bach and Beyond”, which they recorded in 2002.
