At Saxtet Publications, our flute ensemble sheet music section is one of the hidden gems of our website. Like most gems, it’s not the size that counts, it’s the quality! We have some unique flute repertoire that you won’t find available anywhere else.
Original Music for Flute Choir
For beginner flute choirs you have Around Chinatown by Nigel Wood. This melodic round for seven flutes is ideal for ensembles where your players are all of a similar ability. The flute 1 part does have an optional piccolo part, so if you have a more advanced player they could play this part for more of a challenge. A YouTube video of Around Chinatown is included on the link above, where you can also add the flute choir sheet music to your cart.
Another brilliant original work for flute choir by Nigel Wood is Stemming. Described as “melodic motif meets perpetual motion” this melodic yet minimalist style work is accessible to flautists around grade 5 or grade 6 standard. This work is also written for seven players, but does require an alto flute and a bass flute. This unique piece of flute repertoire is available to watch on the Stemming page on our website.
Flute Quartet and Flute Ensemble Music
Although the name Nigel is apparently in danger of dying out, we have two of them producing flute choir sheet music for us! Hoe Down by Nigel Street is available in two different arrangements. The smaller arrangement is Hoe Down for flute quartet. This can be either four equal flutes, or three regular flutes and an alto flute.
The larger arrangement is Hoe Down for flute ensemble. This larger version requires 8 or 9 players: piccolo, three regular flutes, two alto flutes, two bass flutes and an optional contrabass flute. This short and exciting piece is an ideal choice for your encore!
Classical Arrangements for Flute Choir
As well as original works, we also have arrangements of popular works for flute choir. Nigel Wood’s exquisite arrangement of Bach’s famous cantata Sheep May Safely Graze has been expertly arranged for six players; four regular flutes, alto flute and bass flute. Imagine the sound of your flute choir playing this incredible work inside your local church with its beautifully resonant acoustic!

Traditional Folk Music for Flute Ensemble
Songs of the British Isles is an incredible and unique addition to the flute choir repertoire by Craig Rickards. This set of eight traditional folk melodies was originally arranged for saxophone choir by Craig and Nigel Wood has taken these and brilliantly adapted them for flute choir.
The line-up is for seven to nine flutes, with five or six regular flutes and alto flute, and additional optional parts included for piccolo, a second alto flute and bass flute. With all the optional and alternative parts, the line-up is quite flexible.
The eight works within Songs of the British Isles are some of the most famous traditional songs from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Craig’s musical influences range from Vaughan-Williams to Jan Garbarek and you can certainly hear this in these arrangements. Lyrical, vibrant, reflective, folksy with a jazz tinge… these are just some of the adjectives used when describing Songs of the British Isles.
