Description
From the composer: “Where Spirits & Demons Dance” was originally written for Saxophonia, a saxophone choir which evolved out of the National Youth Wind Orchestra, and was premiered at their debut concert in April 1995, at the Purcell Room.
The inspiration came from the haunting and sinister sounds of an old barrel-organ I heard in the Bohemian heart of Amsterdam. The picture I’ve portrayed of Amsterdam’s street life is one of conflict between it’s superficial charm and the sleazier undertones of the environment.
This arrangement of “Demons” for saxophone & piano was completed a decade after composing the original piece and includes parts for both Eb and Bb saxophones. In 2007 it was selected as the set piece for the 2007 Saxophone Prize held at Birmingham Conservatoire where it received its first, second, third and fourth performances in a row.

I thought I should let you know that I played your piece today and the judge gave me a superior rating and said the piece was thrilling and should be a song all sax players should know!
