Description
“Tango” embraces all the characteristic elements of this Argentinian dance and its music – the passion, time changes, colour and rhythms. This piece was influenced by the style of the original street music from Buenos Aires, so that all the parts are rich in detail – a challenging ensemble piece!
Originally written for quintet, this quartet version was produced in response to popular demand.
The E-Edition PDF bundle comes with the following parts:
Soprano Saxophone
Alto Saxophone
Tenor Saxophone
Baritone Saxophone
“Tango” is also available in hard-copy from June Emerson Wind Music.

Tango is an accessible and witty calling card for any saxophone quartet. Like much of Karen Street’s music it is beautifully written for the saxophone and should be suitable for any group around grade six plus. The various sections of the piece will require a lot of rehearsal time to weave together but Tango is worth the effort. The opening tenor line will challenge most players and the bari player will have a ball! Rhythm drives the Tango and fittingly leaves the bari to have the last word. It sounds even better in its version for quintet.

I am a college student who is currently attending Saginaw Valley State University which is located around the middle of the peninsula in the state of Michigan in the United States. During the summer I purchased Tango by Karen Street for a saxophone quartet which I am currently in. I would first off like to say that it is a very well written piece that my group loves to play and will be performing for my music majors student recital. I have found this website and its materials to be a great find for saxophone players. To everyone that looks for a piece I do recommend this site.
