Description
From the composer: This was inspired by listening to a CD of The Soweto String Quartet. The title “So We Too” is derived from “Soweto”, which is an abbreviation of “SOuth WEst TOwnship”. The afro centric, infectious rhythms and sweet harmonies of the SSQ inspired me to write the original version of this piece for string quartet and solo sax (also available from Saxtet Publications).
This is without any great technical difficulties and is a fairly short, fun piece, making it an ideal addition to any concert programme. Percussion instruments may be added.
The E-Edition PDF bundle comes with the following parts:
Standard parts

Alto Saxophone 2
Tenor Saxophone

“So We Too” is also available in hard-copy from June Emerson Wind Music.

In 1999 I was doing a gig in Jo’burg with the ‘Soweto String Quartet’ and asked Nigel to write something for us. This piece is inspired by their infectious rhythms from the album Zebra Crossing. Sadly we never performed it as two of the guys in the group couldn’t read music! This Quartet version works well and I actually prefer the AATB combination. After an atmospheric start the work swings into a cool, laid back groove. The ending is very witty and this wee piece is a perfect encore around a grade six standard.
