A great concert opener! This work begins with a grand statement before launching into broad themes played out over syncopated funk accompaniment. “Simon’s Mangrove Groove” was commissioned by Simon Balle School, Mangrove Road, in Hertford to celebrate the opening of their new music centre. The first performance was given in the new building by “Saxidentals”, the school’s own saxophone choir, on 24th January 2008.

“Simon’s Mangrove Groove” is also published for a smaller 11-piece saxophone ensemble, also available from Saxtet Publications.

    Roger May is the NSC’s Composer-in-Residence and his Simon’s Mangrove Groove is a masterpiece of writing for the group. Superb!
