Lyadov’s Prelude in D Minor is a melancholy piano miniature which is typical of the composer’s modest output. It presents no great technical difficulties, but some poetic solo and ensemble playing is necessary to fully realise this brief piece.
The Paragon Saxophone Quartet have recorded “Prelude” on their album, “Bach & Beyond”. It was chosen to provide a gentle and restorative close to the album.
