Description
This atmospheric composition contains outer sections that feature expressive melodies on the saxophone sensitively supported by warm harmonies from the voices. A cadenza leads the music into the main choral setting of the poetry – Shakespeare’s beautiful sonnet 116 – over which the saxophone interjects with high haunting phrases. The work concludes by returning to the haunting mood of the opening, with the saxophone again leading the melodic interest.
As well as being a concert piece, at around 8 minutes long and with a text often used at weddings, it is an ideal piece for a marriage service, and is particularly suited to an ambient church acoustic.
The work was originally commissioned by a true gentleman as a gift for his wife of nearly 60 years.
The PDF Edition bundle contains a saxophone part and one score which can be printed freely for your choir.
“On Love” is also available in hard-copy from June Emerson Wind Music. The hard-copy edition comes supplied with a saxophone part and 8 choral scores. Additional choral scores are also available from June Emerson Wind Music.
