Description

One of Saxtet’s very first arrangement, and was better known to the group as “Figaro”.  A great show piece for the street or concert hall.

The alto has the operatic role here and largely overshadows the soprano for once. This arrangement includes the fast and furious orchestral tuttis whilst the “alto ego” emerges with lyrical and theatrical bravura.

    Largo al Factotum demonstrates the flexibility of the saxophone – an instrument that can be used to play Rossini as expertly as jazz. The aria lies well for the quartet.
