Description

From the composer, Rob Keeley:

Unusually, the title came first: I am indebted to my friend the artist Mo Batchelor for allowing me to use his lovely, evocative words for a piece of music.

It’s in two sections, the first highly improvisatory in character, it encourages the performer to take a very free approach to rhythm except where is says otherwise.

The second, (riding out) suggests, I hope, a nocturnal horseback ride, but to where?? Needless to say, this was written for and dedicated to Victoria Samek.

“A hush on a winter’s evening… (riding out)” was composed in 2025.

The world premiere recording by Victoria Samek (From 1 to 5, CC0086) is available on Clarinet & Saxophone Classics here, iTunes and all major streaming platforms.

“Hush on a winters evening… (riding out)” is also available in printed edition from June Emerson Wind Music.
