A few words from the composer:

“As the title suggests, this is a punchy little set of variations based on that most adaptable of musical images, the fanfare (see also the six clarinet trios). It also exists in a version for trombones. if the benevolent (if ironic) shade of Igor Stravinsky (particularly of “Agon”) may be detected in this piece, I won’t mind too much. Fanfariations was transcribed for saxophone quartet in 2015.”
