Composed in the Spring of 1917 as a duet for violin & piano, this work was adapted as a trio for violin, ‘cello & piano, and then later adapted by Boulanger herself for orchestra. This was the last work Boulanger wrote before her death in 1918 at the tragically young age of 24.
Marie-Juliette Olga “Lili” Boulanger was a French composer, and the first female winner of the prestigious Prix de Rome composition prize.
This arrangement, by Sally MacTaggart and Gillian Blair is for soprano saxophone, alto saxophone & piano.
