Description
From the composer:
A ‘drollery’ is an amusing little drawing in the margins of a medieval manuscript. Like this partita, they are very much tongue-in-cheek. I was initially inspired to write the first movement for a competition in which the piece had to last just one minute.
The other short movements followed naturally, and before long I had a complete partita, much to my surprise. Certain Baroque references will be noticed, such as Fughetta’bout it, Au Courant and Rondeau, but the piece ranges broadly in style, encompassing along the way swing, Italian and Hispanic influences.
