Description
From the composer: Vacation came about during the summer of 2016 during my studies, at a time when I had a particular interest in the influences of jazz on contemporary classical music. Around this time, I had been exploring various ideas centred around classical ensemble composition, and wanted to incorporate my many jazz influences into the work I was doing.
It was written for and first performed by soprano saxophonist Ben Lester and the Bute Street Saxophone Quartet; and depicts a short journey through some of my fondest memories of childhood family holidays. The aim was to write something which would be moderately challenging yet fun to play, and to explore some of the fantastic potential qualities of the saxophone quartet.
