Description

Composer’s note: After viewing the film “Pacific Heights” while touring the West Coast in the USA with the group Saxtet, I wrote Pacific Nights. The piece is also a tribute to the group, whose encouragement and suggestions inspired me as I worked up the initial idea into its final form.

It started as a sketch with a simple riff on baritone saxophone – my instrument at the time – giving me a rare spot in the limelight.  This was followed by a melodic line, which develops into a rapid quaver passage and virtual chaos, before the emphatic final statement of the opening theme.

Pacific Nights is the only piece I have ever written, although I am planning to write another quartet within the next 15 years!

The E-Edition PDF bundle comes with the following parts:

Soprano Saxophone
Alto Saxophone
Tenor Saxophone
Baritone Saxophone

“Pacific Nights” is also available in hard-copy from June Emerson Wind Music.

Pacific Nights – Lionel Ferer – is laid back at first with some evocative chord effects, followed by a fast section which drives through to the final bars relentlessly.
