Description

This witty and imaginative take on Australia’s signature waltz was originally written for Nigel Wood and his soprillo, and was one of the very first pieces to be published for soprillo saxophone.

In it, the agile little piccolo saxophone (soprillo) revisits “Matilda” in the styles of Ravel, Schubert, Beethoven, Sousa, swing and more, and she is (of course!) serenaded with didgeridoo fanfares.

Although written for the unique soprillo and piano, this sax and piano version can be played on any Bb or Eb saxophone allowing this antipodean gem to get the wider airing it deserves.

It has also been arranged for the full forces of the National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain (NSC) who performed it with Nigel as the soloist at the 2006 World Saxophone Congress in Slovenia.

The E-Edition PDF bundle includes Bb and Eb saxophone parts and piano accompaniment. The Bb part included is as played by Nigel Wood on “Soprillogy”.

“Waltzing Soprillda” is also available in hard-copy from June Emerson Wind Music.
