Description

Shchedryk (“Bountiful Evening”) is a Ukrainian shchedrivka, or New Year’s song. It tells a story of a swallow flying into a household to proclaim the plentiful and bountiful year that the family will have. Originally arranged by Mykola Leontovych in 1916, the melody is more well-known from the re-working by American composer Peter J. Wilhousky, who wrote the English lyrics and renamed it Carol of the Bells.

In this beautiful arrangement, the various weaving melodic lines move seamlessly between parts creating a dance-like moto perpetuo.
