Jenny Ashley

Jenny studied clarinet and bass clarinet with Alan Haydock at Huddersfield Polytechnic. After graduating, she had a complete change of direction and trained firstly as a general nurse before specialising in Paediatrics and Neonates. During this time she kept up her musical activities, playing clarinet in the West Yorkshire Fire Service Military Band and the Yorkshire Wind Orchestra, clarinet, bass clarinet and alto sax in local pit orchestras, and arranging for and playing in a clarinet choir. In 2001 she took up the baritone saxophone and joined the Yorkshire Saxophone Choir of which she was a member until 2005.

Jenny is a regular assistant at the Harrogate International Clarinet and Saxophone Summer School where some of her arrangements for massed saxes have been performed. She is also currently a member of the Tribune Saxophone Octet and the National Festival Orchestra Big Band.

Jenny is a founder member of the National Saxophone Choir. With the NSC she has appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2005, 2006), World Sax Congress (2006), toured in Hong Kong and China (2007) and performed at the Prague Fringe Festival (2008). Inspired by the NSC, her first arrangement was Nimrod from Elgar's Enigma Variations - recorded by the NSC on their 2nd CD, Sax to the Max.
