The National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain have announced that ROGER MAY has won the choir's Composition Competition with his imaginative and exciting score, INTRODUCTION & RIFFS, and declared itself delighted with the response to the competiton.
Roger's entry was chosen from a shortlist of four played through by the choir in its February rehearsal, and the decision was unanimous. The judging panel were impressed by the work's listening and playing qualities, its diversity and use of contrast, and its potential as a striking premiere and long term item in the NSC's repertoire. The work enjoyed a high profile premiere at the World Saxophone Congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia on 8th July 2006, and the choir also played it at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August.
Introduction & Riffs won from a very strong field of seven scores, and the NSC would like to thank all entrants for the great deal of time and skill that went in to crafting these substantial works.
Roger and his work will be profiled more fully in a future news release, so please check back soon. In the meantime, visit Roger May's website.
